Unity Bridges Diversity!
Are we Ready to Stand United for Better System Changes
By: Giancarlo Capco- President, United Tamaraw Law Students Organization
We are all aware of the presence of diversity and indifferences but we must remember that we all have the same mission and the same goal, why should we have conflicts? It is a fact that each year levels is divided into sections but we should not allow this matter to be a factor in creating gaps between our fellow students. Commonly you can hear from all these sections the same statement that the other sections have their own worlds. As time passes by these gaps are developing into rivalries which leads to division. The most common effect of this disparity is the disinterest of students in participating in the institute’s official student activities. With these problems, we students tend to overlook the crises that we are facing in this institute.
Crowded FEU Law Library
We fail to protect our rights regarding certain issues such as inadequate facilities & services, failed transparency in our academic documents, lack of proper system in some of our transactions with the institution, rumor about the unsecured identity in the online evaluation and other serious matters that must to be resolved for the advancement of our education system. These are sad realities that affect the growth of our institution. Quality education and services can only be achieved if we can be united in eradicating these system crises.

Whether it is real, a rumor or just hearsay, we students deserve to know the system and parameters that are used in securing our identity to be confidential on the said online evaluation. With this security we can surely participate honestly in rating our professors.
Recently a letter of inquires by United Tamaraw Law Students of FEU Law regarding on the issue on the online evaluation became the talk of the institute. The issues became so high which prompted our Associate Dean to call for a conference. She is inviting all the students of FEU Law to attend the said conference which will be held on Monday, February 9, 2009, 3:00 pm at the Pre Bar Review Room. Our Associate Dean is encouraging all the students to bring their complaints, comments or suggestions to her office so that as one family we can settle these issues. She stated that she might appear to be strict but deep inside, she is an approachable person. To all of us concerned students, this is our chance to know the truth. This is a great opportunity to settle the doubt on the integrity of the online evaluation. This is the right time for us to strengthen our confidence and honestly participate in giving the proper ratings to our professors’ performance.
Let us communicate and connect with one another and fight against the ineffectivesystem, success hindering traditions and corrupt influence practices. As what the United Tamaraw Law Students Organization declares “Unity bridges diversity, connects indifferences and leads to progress and victory”. We are now in the period of progress, of the best kind, it is comparatively slow but we must remember that great results cannot be achieved at once; and we must be satisfied to advance in life as we walk, step by step.” A United FEU Law Students can surely achieve real progress for our FEU Law community. With Courage we Fight, with Honor we Stand for what is right, what is just and what is reasonable. Caps

“When can I expand?”
-FEU LAW LIB
by: Karlo Concubierta-FEU LAW Badminton Club, Sgt at Arms-UTL.Org
I have been around for quite sometime. I have witnessed many students enter and graduate from this institution. I have witnessed many students achieve their dream of becoming a member of the legal profession. Many of them used to study, and still are studying their lessons inside my vicinity. Oh yes, I am the FEU-LAW Library. Students have come and gone, but I still welcome new students enter the Institute of Law. People age, so do I. What has become of me as time passed by? I have been neglected! The books contained in my shelves are antiques! Not all of them are updated. Some of my books have been damaged beyond repair due to negligence. There are never enough books to benefit the students who need them. How will I ever nurture minds if there are no books?

Century old book. Photo
by:UTL-Library Quality Management Group
The population of this institute increases every school year. I watch in despair as they try to find a spot in my surrounding where they can study. Try ing as they are, they cannot even find one vacant spot. The number of students are simply too many for me to accommodate! What I need is an expansion. I need to expand in order to accommodate all the students who wish to study. I need new and updated books in order to feed those hungry minds of my beloved law students. When will it happen? Is it even possible?
It is time for UNITY!
Unity, Now, Integrity, Team, You
By: Marjorie Malabanan 3rd yr sec 1&2 - Treasurer- UTL.Org

Law school journey is a rollercoaster ride. It is never a walk in the clouds. A classmate once muttered: “Studying law is fun and easy… as fun and easy as taking a stroll in the park…the Jurassic Park.” This is so exaggerated, funny and overrated. Yet, the fact remains going to law school is never an easy endeavor. It is true that along the way of fulfilling the dream of becoming a lawyer, there will be dinosaurs of all sorts. And you have the call whether you would fight them all till the end or out of fear, just sigh and say, “Game over! I’m out. And I quit.” I am certain that most of us, if not all, would brave to dare to have a walk at the Park. Question is, would you choose to walk alone in that park or trail and wander into the Park with all the others who like you are embattled and desirous to get finish the journey at the park.? I need not state the obvious. Nobody has ever survived law school by himself. After all, we are fruits of the same tree and leaves of the same branch according to an ancient prophet. We are one in this pursuit of knowledge of the law.
Unity: Thinking of it, Unity seems like a larger than life word. Is it really possible to achieve a state of unity amidst diversity among individuals? At some point, I would say it is possible as it has been proven in the EDSA I Revolution. As for the other EDSA revolutions, I cannot agree. It cannot be solely manifested in marching out through the streets, hand-in-hand, and crying out the same sentiments and ranting and wailing our woes against GMA while burning all her effigies. And it is definitely not always evident in those movements to oust every government official that is distasteful to their view, to the effect that it is becoming a hobby to them, in disregard of the general welfare of all. I would say Unity, in the real sense of the word, has been abused many times as it is being used as a cloak to advance evil interests of the few. Therefore it is possible, but it has to be established out of sincerity and all honesty. That is, unity in good faith produces desired results.
Now: “Now is the time!” said US President Barack Obama during his campaign regarding his call to abolish the inhumane treatment to prisoners of war or suspected terrorists. That would be the same thing that I like to would stress out to all of you which is the essence of time. We are aware of the problems that we are encountering here in the Institute. To enumerate some: the unsystematic and exhausting enrollment process, lack of updated law books in the library, inferior classrooms, lack of computers (not to mention the bad internet connection), crowded sections, even conflicting exam schedules, etc... Words without action would remain words. If we do not voice out our concerns now, then when? Even if we whine all day our sentiments, it would be futile, if there is no action on our part. Now is the time that we break the wall that hinders us to achieve a healthier IL community and a more conducive environment for learning the ins and outs of the field of Law. Something worth leaving as a legacy to future FEU-IL students as they would just start to learn their ABC’s.
Integrity :Integrity is one of the principles that we should uphold in the legal profession. In relation to unity, a unified action done with truthfulness is nobility. As such, we emphasize the dire need to infuse upon every IL student the virtue of integrity. We rally for the making of integrity as the Institute’s way of life.
Integrity is a word that for some seem to be superficial. It sounds too patriotic. Yet there is a need for us to relive in ourselves the value of integrity. As the legal profession is currently hounded with issues on corruption, it is proper that as early as now, we remind ourselves the duty of every aspiring lawyer to possess integrity. Let as not be so soaked into matters which do not speak well of our values like engaging in senseless fights and indulging too much on false confidence.
Team: I really believe that “Together Everyone Achieves More.” Simply put, we are a T.E.A.M. It is in togetherness and having a feeling of sense of belonging that one is motivated to do his best for the group, that it may accomplish its goal whatever that may be. And it does not always pertain to being victorious (it shouldn’t be), but having the pride in oneself that you are part of that team. Let the Institute of Law be the broom and we the law students as the sticks, without which it cannot stand and therefore worthless.
You: Each of us has an important role to play in our quest for success. You should realize your self-worth, first, as an individual law student and then you being a part of the IL Community. Then it would follow the realization of your importance of in taking part in every collective action that IL Community might get involved with, so long as it is for the welfare of everyone. Cliché as it may goes, but it begins with you, you and you. In conclusion, the call for unity is clear. We are one in this plight. We are not that different from every distinct face that you see everyday.
In conclusion, the call for unity is clear. We are one in this plight. We are not that different from every distinct face that you see everyday. Let me end this as I speak to your hearts fellow Tamaraws, I quote, “United, we stand! United, We will be until the end! Our success lies on our hands.”
What’s New in the Institute of Law
By: FEU Law Leaders

For a very long time students of law are known for being inactive in participating on extra curricular activities of the institute, it may be due for their being focused on their studies and other law related matters. However, surprisingly on the year 2007 and 2008 new emerging organizations and sports clubs such as the FEU Law Moot Court Council, the reorganized FEU Law Review, FEU Law Leaders, FEU Law Football Club, FEU Law Badminton Club, FEU Law Airsoft Club, FEU Law Photography Club and the United Tamaraw Law Students Organization, are creating impact on the lives of the students in this institute by their activities which are relevant to the development of the FEU Law Community.

In the challenge of diversity students managed to unite for a common cause. Thanks for the effort of some individuals who stands to contribute in the advancement of our FEU Law Community despite the scarcity of time in this institution. Now you can really feel the progress in our school.
The Principle of Unity in Family and Community

All families and communities that became successful through the history of mankind have one thing in common, all of them follows the principle of Unity towards success. In our history, the first Filipino Hero Lapu-Lapu won the battle of Mactan through united forces of Filipino warriors against Magellan. Moving further, we have surpass the power of the Spanish war government through the unity of the Katipuneros against the Spanish conquerors, we again ended an evil act,

the dictatorship of Former President Marcos through unity by Filipino People Power. In conclusion unity can lead us towards success and victory!

Our Vision - Imagine a place where everyone are there to help each other., a place where all the organizations are established for the development of members and of the community, a place without violence, a place of peace where the organizations extend their helping hands to other organizations to help create good relationships with each other. Is it worth studying in a place where there is unity among all students, a place full of love, peace and care where all the students are striving hard to promote and protect their rights for the betterment of their own community.
All of these are part of the Mission and Vision of the United Tamaraw Law Students which aims to bridge diversity through unity, connects the gap and indifferences through relevant projects for students’ relationship development and leads our FEU LAW Community towards success through strong values and principle development. The Problems to be solved - It is clear that unity among all of us can surely lead us towards successful path. If success due to unity was possible during the past it is crystal clear that we can achieve success if we can stand with unity by doing the right thing in our institute. Let us be united in battling the problems in our institute such as the following: confidentiality in the online evaluation, unprogressive enrolment system, deteriorating library system (old books, computer with viruses), crowded library, lack of freedom of the press, under rated students’ rights, lack of center for grievances, increasing violence and hate and lack of essential projects for students’ academic development and extra curricular enhancement. .

FACTS and HISTORY
Did you Know that TAMARAWS are Endemic

The Tamaraw (Bubalus mindorensis) or Mindoro Dwarf Buffalo is a small hoofed mammal belonging to the family Bovidae. It is endemic to the island of Mindoro in the Philippines and is the only endemic Philippine bovine. It is believed, however, to have once also thrived on the greater island of Luzon. The tamaraw was originally found all over Mindoro, from sea level up to the mountains (2000 meters above sea level), but because of human habitation, hunting, and logging, it is now restricted to only a few remote grassy plains and is now an endangered species.

Contrary to common belief and past classification, the tamaraw is not a subspecies of the local carabao, which is only slightly larger, or the common Water buffalo. In contrast to the carabao, it has a number of distinguishing characteristics: it is slightly hairier, has light markings on its face, is not gregarious, and has shorter horns that are somewhat V-shaped. It is the largest native terrestrial mammal in the country. ( from http://en.wikipedia.org)
Profile
The tamaraw is a small wild buffalo weighing about 300 kg (660 lb). It lives in dense forest with open glades for grazing, such as are created by fires or landslides. At one time it was found from sea level to 2000 m (6600'). It also prefers to be close to water for wallowing. The tamaraw feeds on grasses, bamboo shoots and aquatic vegetation. Its small size and great strength enables it to push through dense jungle and climb steep mountains. Tamaraw apparently associate in pairs, rather than herds, except when the cows are about to give birth.
The tamaraw was first documented by Western science in 1888. It has never been recorded from any area other than the island of Mindoro (Philippines). Prior to about 1900, most people had avoided settling on Mindoro, since it harbored a particularly virulent strain of malaria. Thus human impact on the tamaraw had been slight. At one time the tamaraw lived throughout most of the island. With the advent of anti-malarial medicines near the turn of the century, Mindoro became more accessible to human settlement. Since that time, the tamaraw's population has been reduced from abundance to a critically low level. By 1966 its range had been reduced almost entirely to 3 principal areas: Mt. Iglit, Mt. Calavite, and the vicinity of the Sablayon Penal Settlement. By 2000, reports suggested that tamaraw were restricted to just 2 areas: the Iglit Ranges, in Mounts Iglit-Baco National Park, and Aruyan, with very few data about numbers in either site.
The tamaraw has declined mainly because of hunting, especially after the introduction of modern firearms after WWII and the Vietnam war; and habitat loss, due to settlement, logging and ranching, after malaria was brought under control around 1900. Disease (rinderpest) caught from domestic cattle introduced to the island in the 1930's has also had a serious impact. by: http://www.animalinfo.org

After a series of challenges, the Independent United Tamaraw Law PArty managed to stand for what they believe in. At first, they party was accused of being a bloopers party for this coming election despite the fact that these individuals in the United Tamaraw Law are the one who are really fighting for the rights of the FEU Law students.
2nd they accused the United Tamaraw to be in connivance with ACLAS Party. It is for real that both the United Tamaraw and the ACLAS Party have the same cause of changing the system and we respect each other for we both believe in Unity but it is not true that we are in connivance with each other. We are friends in the community but we have separate reasons why we are standing in this election race.
Then, our party United Tamaraw Law was denied admission in the 2009 FEU Law Election because the authority stated that we can not run as a party due to the fact that we are not registered as a party. The fact that in our institute, there is no COMELEC rules regarding on the registration of the party to run in the said election, why is it applied to us. But anyway, we all know that right fo Suffrage will not deprive willing and dedicated students to run and serve in the students council, therefore we will stand as an Independent United Tamaraw Law Party.
In all instances, we managed to survive because of the power of Unity. We believe that when unity starts to walk, everyone will become successful. Because UNITY Bridges Diversity, connects indifference and leads towards success and victory.
With our principles you could expect Changes that you can believe in!

It is time for the truth, for honor and for the right principles to govern our way of life. It is time for the words with actions that we can believe in!

Despite the problems confronting the current FEU institute of law officers, they managed to support the conflicts of law tournament by distributing to the players the necessary funds in order to accommodate them of their uniforms and some of the gears needed in their respective contest. It is good to see the students in FEU law school unite in order to represent the school in conflicts of law tournament regardless of the rivalries of their respective fraternities and organizations. Let's hope that the future officers of the IL SC will give emphasis on the importance of unity in the school not only in representing the school in sports tournaments, but also in the Bar Examinations. Ask not what the law school can do for you, ask what you can do for your law school.

The Need for Moral Revolution
By: Mike Dumaual- CLASE

Our very own Chief Justice has spoken about moral revolution as the key in solving the different problems of our society. So what’s the big deal with moral revolution anyway? Amidst massive allegations of corruption in the government today, our justice system has once again emerged as one of the institutions most vulnerable to corruption. Indeed, nothing is more pressing today than the need to address the problem of our social values. We cannot just feign ignorance to this seemingly growing “trend of corruption” among our leaders today. We must make a firm stand and break this culture of indifference. To address the heart of the problem, we must first look into one of the basic foundations of our society; the academic institutions. Undeniably, most of the vital government posts will be assumed by us future lawyers. It is for this reason that there is the need to inculcate Christian values this early in law school level to prevent our future servants from committing the same mistakes. In law school, we are so pre occupied. Because of our toxic schedules we barely have time to commit ourselves to a life of prayer and personal relationship with God. Certainly we have to study hard to earn our law degree, pass the Bar exams and become lawyers someday. But our life does not end in becoming a lawyer. Our purpose in life is far greater than our personal fulfilment, our career and our ambitions. We were all made by God and for God- and until we understand that, life will never make sense. A life devoted to things is a dead life, a strump; God –shaped life is a flourishing tree.-Proverbs II:28.

Our fellow law students, this is the right time to begin our own moral revolution. We must be steadfast in our commitment in effecting reforms in our society. Focusing on ourselves will never reveal our life’s purpose. Christian Law Students Evangelization (C.L.A.S.E.) a Catholic Charismatic group which was formed in 2002 by law students from different law schools, invites you to take the first step in fulfilling this role of being a lawyer servant for God. Join us In evangelizing law school so as to ultimately achieve that vision of having a God fearing lawyer servants. Let us not confine ourselves with the mundane activities of life. Instead let us focus on what really matters; focusing on God as the center of our life. Let’s strive to live a lifestyle reflective of Christian values, particularly in our pursuit of truth and justice.
We are all destined to live for His glory

A Message to the Organizations, Fraternities and Sororities
By: United Tamaraw Law Students. Org- LLB4302

In my observation on the law communities of different international law schools I have seen the unity of different organizations including the fraternities and sororities in achieving a common goal of developing their community including the lives of their fellow schoolmates. I can still remember the personal message given to me by a Harvard Law Student that in their law school, fraternities does not fight against each other because they believe that their existence are for giving service to their fellow Harvard Law Students regardless of their affiliations.
I think we should all reflect and look at the inner purpose of our existence. As students in one community we should unite regardless of our affiliations for all of us to achieve our common goals of having an institute equipped with quality service which can leads to our ultimate goal of becoming a Lawyer of Justice.
Unity can bring Success and Victory!
